Business Groups Enlist Legislature to Preempt Local Environmental Regs

“They think their job is to come up here and solve people’s problems back home, they don’t get the perspective there is a Constitution voted on by the people. Home rule is supposed to be alive and well.”

Business groups, like the Florida Retail Federation, are behind  legislation that would preempt local environmental ordinances like the banning of fracking, or limitation on plastic bags. The Florida League of Cities and the Florida Association of Counties argue that such decisions should be left up to local governments.
